Publication Ethics

Introduction

The Journal of Law and Cultural Studies (JLCS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expects editors, reviewers, and authors to uphold ethical conduct throughout the publication process.

All parties involved in the publication of a manuscript—including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—share responsibility for ensuring that research is conducted and published ethically, transparently, and responsibly.

Responsibilities of Editors

The Editors of JLCS are responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of the journal. Editors shall:

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit, originality, and relevance to the journal's scope.

  • Make editorial decisions fairly and without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, political beliefs, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.

  • Ensure that all submitted manuscripts undergo a fair and impartial Double-Blind Peer Review process.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and all communications during the editorial process.

  • Avoid conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where such conflicts exist.

  • Take appropriate action when ethical concerns, research misconduct, or publication malpractice are identified.

  • Correct, retract, or withdraw published articles when necessary to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of published research. Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations.

  • Review manuscripts only within their area of expertise.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts.

  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.

  • Identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.

  • Inform the editor of any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, or other ethical concerns.

  • Decline to review manuscripts when a conflict of interest exists.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained during the review process for personal research or any other unauthorized purpose.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to JLCS must:

  • Submit only original and unpublished work.

  • Ensure that the manuscript is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously.

  • Present research accurately and honestly without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.

  • Properly acknowledge all sources through accurate citation and referencing.

  • Include as authors only those who have made significant scholarly contributions to the work.

  • Obtain permission for the use of copyrighted materials where required.

  • Disclose all sources of funding and any potential conflicts of interest.

  • Notify the editor promptly if a significant error is discovered after publication and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article when necessary.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to:

  • The conception or design of the research;

  • Data collection, analysis, or interpretation;

All listed authors should agree to the submission and accept responsibility for the content of the manuscript.

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.

Plagiarism and Originality

JLCS has zero tolerance for plagiarism.

All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process.

The journal considers the following practices to be unethical:

Fabrication, falsification, selective reporting, or manipulation of research data constitutes serious research misconduct and is unacceptable.

Editors may request original research data to verify the validity of reported findings.

Conflict of Interest

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the publication process.

Potential conflicts of interest should be declared at the time of submission or review.

Confidentiality

Editors and reviewers must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents.

Information obtained during the editorial and peer-review process must not be disclosed or used for personal advantage without the explicit permission of the authors.

Human Participants and Ethical Approval

Where required, authors should provide information regarding ethical approval obtained from the appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board.
